Asia to spearhead global acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene capacity additions by 2025, forecasts GlobalData

Asia is expected to lead the global acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) capacity additions with a capacity of 2.60 million tons per annum (mtpa) by 2025. Within Asia, China accounts for more than half of the region’s capacity additions and the country is projected to lead the global ABS capacity additions by 2025, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s report, ‘Global Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) Industry Outlook to 2024 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants, reveals that ABS capacity is poised to see considerable growth of 27% by 2025, potentially increasing from 11.38 mtpa in 2020 to 14.51 mtpa in 2025.

Amareswari Kanaparthi, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, says: “China leads the capacity additions in the region with capacity additions of 2.60 mtpa by 2025. Majority of these additions will be from planned projects Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Longkou ABS Plant, INEOS Styrolution Ningbo ABS Plant and Jilin Petrochemical Company Jilin ABS Plant 4 with the capacity of 0.60 mtpa each, respectively.”

GlobalData identifies Iran as the second highest country in terms of capacity additions with a capacity of 0.20 mtpa by 2021. The entire capacity additions will be from a planned project, Jam Petrochemical Company Assaluyeh ABS Plant.

India will be the third highest country in terms of capacity additions with the capacity of 0.11 mtpa. Majority of the capacity additions will be from an announced project INEOS Styrolution India Dahej ABS Plant with the capacity of 0.07 mtpa, by 2023.

Ineos Ltd,Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Ltd and China National Petroleum Corp will be the top three companies globally in terms of planned and announced capacity additions over the outlook period.
