China to spearhead Asian polycarbonate capacity additions through 2025, forecasts GlobalData

China is expected to register the highest polycarbonate capacity additions in Asia between 2021 to 2025, contributing more than 50% of the total capacity additions by 2025, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s report, ‘ Global Polycarbonate Market Size and Forecast, 2021-2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’, reveals that China will have nine new-build and expansion projects with a capacity additons of about 1.93 mtpa by 2025.

Vinuthna Bidar, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, says: “In China, majority of the capacity additions are from Shenma Industrial Company Kaifeng Polycarbonate Plant and Shenma Industrial Company Pingdingshan Polycarbonate Plant, with the capacity of 0.40 mtpa each. They are expected to commence production of polycarbonate in 2022.”

Sinopec SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical Company Tianjin Polycarbonate Plant and Zhejiang Petrochemical Daishan Polycarbonate Plant 2 are the second highest contributors in terms of capacity additions with a capacity of 0.26 mtpa each by 2025.

Covestro Caojing Polycarbonate Plant 2 is the third highest plant in terms of capacity additions in the country with the capacity of 0.15 mtpa by 2025. It is operated by Covestro Polymers (China) Co Ltd.
