Boeing set to Cut Workforce

Airplane manufacturer Boeing Co announced on September 20, 2022, that it would eliminate 150 finance roles in the US in 2022 to streamline its corporate structure and direct more resources to production and product development. The company will reduce the number of employees in its finance and information technology divisions.

To meet the demand, Boeing, which faced engineering and production issues in the past, claimed to have increased its workforce by 10,000 employees in the first few months of 2022. It also said that hiring in its engineering and manufacturing departments had increased. The number of active jobs in Boeing Co declined significantly in September 2022 in comparison to that in July 2022, according to GlobalData.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) vowed to scrutinize Boeing thoroughly and give the company fewer responsibilities in aircraft certification in the wake of two 737 MAX tragedies in 2018 and 2019. In August 2022, the US government gave approval for the first Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s delivery since 2021. In May 2021, Boeing stopped shipping when the FAA voiced concerns about the company’s suggested inspection procedure. The FAA said in September 2020 that it was looking into manufacturing issues in several 787 aircraft.
