Overview of major industries sponsoring tennis

Clothing & Accessories

Clothing & accessories is the most active industry sponsoring tennis with 140 active sponsorship deals. As per GlobalData’s Sponsorship database, Joma, the sportswear manufacturer, agreed on a deal to sponsor Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET). The deal was announced in February 2022, has been confirmed for the year 2022. As part of the agreement, Joma will serve as the RFET’s kit supplier.

As per GlobalData’s Sponsorship database, another notable deal was signed between Uniqlo, the Japanese fashion brand, with Swiss tennis player Roger Federer. The 10-year partnership, announced in July 2018, runs through 2027. As part of the agreement, Uniqlo will serve as Federer's kit supplier. The deal is worth $300 million.

Sports Equipment

Sports equipment is the second most active industry sponsoring tennis with 93 active deals. As per GlobalData’s Sponsorship database, Dunlop, the sports equipment firm, agreed on a deal to sponsor Tennis Europe. The four-year deal, announced in March 2022, covers the 2022 to 2025 period. As part of the agreement, Dunlop will serve as the main equipment sponsor for the European Tennis Federation. The deal which begins on April 1, will involve Dunlop’s range of products and brands - including K-Swiss footwear and the Slinger Bag ball launcher - being promoted as official products of Tennis Europe.

As per GlobalData’s Sponsorship database, the largest deal by a sports equipment company was signed between Wilson, a sports equipment manufacturer and Swiss tennis player Roger Federer. The lifetime contract announced in March 2006, covers rackets, string, tennis balls, and tennis accessories. The deal is reportedly worth $3.49 million (£2.0 million) per year.

Financial Services

Financial services is the third most active industry sponsoring tennis with 65 deals signed as per GlobalData’s Sponsorship database. As per GlobalData’s Sponsorship database, the largest sponsorship deal by a financial services company was signed between BNP Paribas, the multinational banking group and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, one of the top events on the men’s ATP and women’s WTA tours. The five-year partnership announced in March 2018, covers the 2019-23 period. As part of the agreement, BNP Paribas will continue to serve as the event’s title sponsor, a role it first attained in 2009.
