Due to global labour mobility, the gender gap in companies has shrunk over the past three decades. However, COVID-19's impact on the labor market has had catastrophic effects everywhere. In 2020, women's employment decreased globally by 5%, while men's employment decreased by about 4%, according to the International Labor Organization (ILO).

In the coming years, the technology sector will aim to reduce the gender pay gap and increase inclusivity. To encourage a pleasant workplace culture, technology companies must develop flexible work and well-being services, such as childcare and free mental health counseling.

In 2021, AT&T reported 30.9% women participation in its workforce, a decrease of 3.4 percentage points over 2020. At the senior level representation of women globally decreased to 30.3% by 3.3 percentage points over 2020.

In 2021, the representation of Asian and Pacific Islander employees in the US AT&T workforce was 7.4% which decreased by 0.3 percentage points from 2020. Black & African American and Hispanic & Latinx employees represented 19.9% and 16.9% of the US workforce, respectively. 

In 2021, AT&T contributed directly to supporting over 400,000 diverse jobs with 220,000 jobs for women. AT&T has invested $200 billion with businesses and enterprises owned by minorities, women, service-disabled veterans, LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities in the last 52 years.
