China remained the top consumer of the internet in terms of mobile internet connections, accounting for 19% of the global share of mobile internet connections. In Asia-Pacific, China accounted for 36% of the total mobile internet connections. In 2021, China registered an increase of 9% in mobile internet connections, with the subscriber base reaching 994 million users over that in 2020. The main contributor to the growth was the increased use of the internet, coupled with the increase in the number of smartphone users. The internet market in China is controlled by major telecom companies, including China Mobile Communications Group Co, China Unicorn (Hong Kong) Limited, and China Telecom Corporation Limited.

India ranked second in the number of internet users in terms of mobile internet connections, accounting for 13% of the global share of mobile internet connections. India recorded consistent growth in the number of internet subscribers due to greater digital awareness among users, along with an increase in disposable income. The major companies in the Indian internet space include Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

The number of mobile internet users in India grew 17% to 695 million users in 2021. The growth was the result of an increase in the number of smartphone users, and the rollout of a high-speed 4G network. The number of mobile internet connections grew at a CAGR of 16.65% during 2018–21. In Asia-Pacific, India accounted for 25% of the total number of mobile internet connections.

The US ranked third in terms of mobile internet connections, accounting for 3% of the global share of mobile internet connections. The major companies in the country include AT&T and Verizon Communications.

Indonesia remained the fourth-largest user in terms of mobile internet connections, accounting for 4% of the global share of mobile internet connections. In Asia-Pacific, Indonesia accounted for 8% of the total number of mobile internet connections. The subscriber base of mobile internet in Indonesia grew 11% to 223 million users in 2021. The growth was due to an increase in the number of smartphone users, coupled with the rollout of a high-speed 5G network. Higher demand for digital media entertainment also increased the demand for mobile internet. The major companies in the Indonesian internet market include Indosat Ooredoo and PT XL Axiata.
