In 2021, Guinea-Bissau saw a 23% increase in the internet subscriber base, leading to a subscriber base of 334,000 due to improvement in the network infrastructure in the region. The Maldives ranks third among the countries with the lowest number of mobile internet users, accounting for 0.02% of the global mobile internet connections with a subscriber base of 832,000. The major companies in the region include Ooredoo and Dhiraagu.
Gabon continued to rank fourth among the countries with the lowest number of mobile internet connections, accounting for 0.017% of the global mobile internet connections. In 2021, Gabon’s mobile internet subscriber base reached 851,000, registering a 30% increase over that in the previous year. The growth was the result of the increase in smartphone users and higher demand for digital media entertainment. The major companies in the Gabon internet market include Gabon telecom, Zain, Moov, and Bintel.
