Middle East and Africa: Five largest Private Equity/Venture Financing deals by value in the Financial Services sector (LTM June 2022)

  • A total of 231 Private Equity/Venture Financing deals (pending and completed) were announced in the Financial Services of the Middle East and Africa region, in the last twelve months resulting in a total deal value of over $6,821.7 million. In the LTM period, February 2022 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $1,283.0 million, resulting in an average deal value of $51.3 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of February 2022 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 25 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $51.3 million during that month.

  • Of the 231 deals, the deal secured between ADQ and Commercial International Bank (Egypt) SAE, was the largest Private Equity/Venture Financing deal in the Middle East and Africa Financial Services sector, which was valued at $911.5 million and was completed on April 13, 2022. The second-largest deal was between Brookfield Business Partners LP and Magnati Payment Solutions, while the third-largest deal was between 3W Capital; Longzhu Capital; Meituan; Redpoint China Ventures.; Sequoia Capital China; Softbank Ventures Korea Inc; SoftBank Vision Fund II; Source Code Capital and O-Play Digital Services Limited. The Brookfield Business Partners LP-Magnati Payment Solutions deal and the 3W Capital; Longzhu Capital; Meituan; Redpoint China Ventures.; Sequoia Capital China; Softbank Ventures Korea Inc; SoftBank Vision Fund II; Source Code Capital-O-Play Digital Services Limited deal were valued at $690.0 million and $400.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Old Mutual Private Equity-Long4Life Limited valued at $276.7 million, whereas the deal between Accel; Bessemer Venture Partners; Coatue Management LLC; Corner Ventures; General Catalyst Partners LLC; Latitude (UK); Thrive Capital; Tiger Global Management LLC-Melio Payments Inc. valued at $250.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.

  • Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $2,528.1 million and accounted for nearly 37.06% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. The Middle East and Africa region accounted for 3.79% of the total Private Equity/Venture Financing deals done globally, and accounted for 0.22% of the total deal size on a global scale.
