The second largest number of ESG related patents were published by Metso Outotec Corp with 168 patents, of which 66.1% was contributed by its subsidiary Outotec (Finland) Oy. The third largest number of ESG related patents were published by Exxon Mobil Corp with 141 patents, of which 41.8% was contributed by its subsidiary Exxonmobil Chemical Patents Inc.. The fourth largest number of ESG related patents were published by Johnson & Johnson with 128 patents, of which 36.7% was contributed by Janssen Pharmaceutica NV. The fifth largest number of ESG related patents were published by Shell plc with 118 patents, of which 97.5% was contributed by its subsidiary Shell Internationale Research Maatschappij B.V..
The top five patent holders, i.e., BASF SE, Metso Outotec Corp, Exxon Mobil Corp, Johnson & Johnson, and Shell plc, together held 758 ESG patents during the period.
