Cadia Mine in New South Wales, was the largest gold-producing mine in Australia, producing approximately 764.9 thousand ounces of gold and an estimated 32.5 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Cadia Mine is owned by Newcrest Mining Ltd, and is due to operate until 2047. The second largest gold-producing mine with an estimated gold production of 680 thousand ounces and an estimated 35.51 mmtpa of ROM, was the Boddington Mine located in New South Wales. The Boddington Mine is owned by Newmont Corp, and is due to operate until 2034.
Fosterville Gold Mine located in Victoria was the third-largest mine, the Kalgoorlie Mine located in Western Australia was the fourth-largest mine, and the Tanami Mines located in Northern Territory was the fifth-largest mine, with a total gold production of 509.6 thousand ounces, 478.7 thousand ounces and 456 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Fosterville Gold Mine, the Kalgoorlie Mine and the Tanami Mines had an estimated ROM production of 0.71 mmtpa, 8.19 mmtpa and 2.84 mmtpa respectively. The Fosterville Gold Mine is owned by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd which is due to operate until 2025, the Kalgoorlie Mine is owned by Northern Star Resources Ltd which is due to operate until 2035 and the Tanami Mines is owned by Newmont Corp which is due to operate until 2033.
The five largest gold mines, i.e., Cadia Mine, Boddington Mine, Fosterville Gold Mine, Kalgoorlie Mine, and Tanami Mines, cumulatively produced approximately 2,889.2 thousand ounces of gold, 79.76 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
