Grasberg Block Cave Mine in Papua, was the largest gold-producing mine in Indonesia, producing approximately 668 thousand ounces of gold and an estimated 26.4 million metric tons per annum (mmtpa) of Run-of-Mine (ROM) in 2021. The Grasberg Block Cave Mine is owned by PT Inalum, and is due to operate until 2041. The second largest gold-producing mine with an estimated gold production of 548.8 thousand ounces and an estimated 21.66 mmtpa of ROM, was the Deep Mill Level Zone Mine located in Papua. The Deep Mill Level Zone Mine is owned by PT Inalum, and is due to operate until 2041.
Martabe Project located in North Sumatra was the third-largest mine, the Toka Tindung Gold Project located in North Sulawesi was the fourth-largest mine, and the Tujuh Bukit Oxide Project located in East Java was the fifth-largest mine, with a total gold production of 391 thousand ounces, 225 thousand ounces and 213.5 thousand ounces, respectively, in 2021. The Martabe Project, the Toka Tindung Gold Project and the Tujuh Bukit Oxide Project had an estimated ROM production of 5.92 mmtpa, 3.8 mmtpa and 6.43 mmtpa respectively. The Martabe Project is owned by PT United Tractors Tbk which is due to operate until 2034, the Toka Tindung Gold Project is owned by PT Rajawali Corp and the Tujuh Bukit Oxide Project is owned by PT Merdeka Copper Gold Tbk which is due to operate until 2024.
The five largest gold mines, i.e., Grasberg Block Cave Mine, Deep Mill Level Zone Mine, Martabe Project, Toka Tindung Gold Project, and Tujuh Bukit Oxide Project, cumulatively produced approximately 2,046.3 thousand ounces of gold, 64.17 mmtpa of ROM in 2021.
