On the other hand, the month of July 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 9 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $118.2 million during that month.
Of the 54 deals, the deal secured between Whitecap Resources Inc and XTO Energy Canada, was the largest M&A deal in the Canada Oil & Gas sector, which was valued at $1,470.0 million and was completed on June 28, 2022. The second-largest deal was between Astisiy Limited Partnership and Northern Courier Pipeline LP, while the third-largest deal was between Trencap LP and Noverco Inc. The Astisiy Limited Partnership-Northern Courier Pipeline LP deal and the Trencap LP-Noverco Inc deal were valued at $1,026.4 million and $943.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Tourmaline Oil Corp-Black Swan Energy Ltd valued at $908.7 million, whereas the deal between Canadian Natural Resources Ltd-Storm Resources Ltd valued at $771.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $5,119.1 million and accounted for nearly 52.55% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months.
