The second largest number of Shale related patents were published by Schlumberger Ltd with 4,772 patents, of which 28.4% was contributed by its subsidiary Schlumberger Technology BV. The third largest number of Shale related patents were published by Baker Hughes Co with 2,141 patents, of which 49.4% was contributed by its subsidiary Baker Hughes Srl. The fourth largest number of Shale related patents were published by China National Petroleum Corp with 1,904 patents, of which 64.2% was contributed by its subsidiary PetroChina Co Ltd. The fifth largest number of Shale related patents were published by China Petrochemical Corp with 1,631 patents, of which 75.0% was contributed by its subsidiary China Petroleum & Chemical Corp.
The top five patent holders, i.e., Halliburton Co, Schlumberger Ltd, Baker Hughes Co, China National Petroleum Corp, and China Petrochemical Corp, together held 16,160 Shale patents during the period.
