China: Five largest Mergers & Acquisitions deals by value in the Power & Utilities sector (LTM June 2022)

  • A total of 70 Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) deals (pending and completed) were announced in the Power & Utilities of China, in the last twelve months resulting in a total deal value of over $6,793.6 million. In the LTM period, January 2022 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $2,062.9 million, resulting in an average deal value of $206.3 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of December 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 14 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $54.7 million during that month.

  • Of the 70 deals, the deal secured between Shanxi Coking Coal Group Co Ltd and Huajin Coking Coal Co Ltd, was the largest M&A deal in the China Power & Utilities sector, which was valued at $1,038.9 million and was completed on January 19, 2022. The second-largest deal was between Guangdong Electric Power Development Co Ltd and Guangdong Shajiao (Plant C) Power Generation Co., Ltd; Guangdong Yudean Yunhe Power Generation Co Ltd; Guangdong Yuehua Power Generation Co Ltd, while the third-largest deal was between Jiangsu Expressway Co Ltd and Jiangsu Yunshan Green Energy Investment Holding Company Limited. The Guangdong Electric Power Development Co Ltd-Guangdong Shajiao (Plant C) Power Generation Co., Ltd; Guangdong Yudean Yunhe Power Generation Co Ltd; Guangdong Yuehua Power Generation Co Ltd deal and the Jiangsu Expressway Co Ltd-Jiangsu Yunshan Green Energy Investment Holding Company Limited deal were valued at $642.0 million and $371.7 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Zijin Mining Group Co Ltd-Fujian Longking Co Ltd valued at $258.9 million, whereas the deal between Sembcorp Energy (Shanghai) Holding Co Ltd-Tianjin SDIC New Energy Co., Ltd. valued at $235.5 million was the fifth-largest deal.

  • Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $2,547.0 million and accounted for nearly 37.49% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months.
