Of the 25 deals, the deal secured between CPFL Energia SA; EDP - Energias do Brasil SA; Energisa SA; Equatorial Energia SA; Neoenergia SA and Enel Distribucion Goias SA, was the largest M&A deal in the South and Central America Power & Utilities sector, which was valued at $2,000.0 million and was completed on April 26, 2022. The second-largest deal was between Equatorial Energia SA and Echoenergia Participacoes SA, while the third-largest deal was between Innergex Renewable Energy Inc and Aela Energia. The Equatorial Energia SA-Echoenergia Participacoes SA deal and the Innergex Renewable Energy Inc-Aela Energia deal were valued at $1,178.3 million and $686.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between CPFL Comercializacao de Energia Cone Sul Ltda. (CPFL Cone Sul)-Companhia Estatual de Transmissao de Energia Eletrica (CEEE-T) valued at $520.0 million, whereas the deal between Inversiones Cachagua SpA-AES Gener SA valued at $517.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $4,901.3 million and accounted for nearly 64.81% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. The South and Central America region accounted for 5.29% of the total M&A deals done globally, and accounted for 1.22% of the total deal size on a global scale.
