Brazil nickel reserves
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), Brazil accounted held at a significant position of global nickel reserve. The Brazilian states of Goias and Bahia contains some of the country’s significant nickel deposits at the Barro Alto and Santa Rita mines respectively. Nickel deposits at the Santa Rita mine have sulfide mineralization with average thickness.

Global nickel mine production held a significant position in 2021 after registering a decline in previous year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Output from Indonesia, the Philippines and Brazil will be significant contributors to overall growth. In contrast, production is expected to decline in Russia, South Africa and Finland, owing to lower production from Oktyabrsky and Taimyrsky mines and the planned closure of African Rainbow Minerals’ Nkomati mine in 2021.
