A total of 68 M&A deals (pending and completed) were announced in the Global Lodging sector, in the last twelve months resulting in a total deal value of over $38,637.2 million. In the LTM period, September 2021 turned out to be the most prolific in terms of deal size, with a total deal value of $21,981.4 million, resulting in an average deal value of $7,327.1 million during that month. On the other hand, the month of November 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 10 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $354.4 million during that month.
Of the 68 deals, the deal secured between DraftKings Inc and Entain PLC, was the largest M&A deal in the Global Lodging sector, which was valued at $21,551.4 million and was completed on September 21, 2021. The second-largest deal was between Sundown Acquisition Corp. and Spirit Airlines Inc, while the third-largest deal was between MGM Resorts International and CityCenter Holdings, LLC. The Sundown Acquisition Corp.-Spirit Airlines Inc deal and the MGM Resorts International-CityCenter Holdings, LLC deal were valued at $7,121.5 million and $2,125.0 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Sun Communities Inc-Park Holidays UK Ltd valued at $1,300.0 million, whereas the deal between Booking Holdings Inc-Consumer Club, Inc valued at $1,200.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $33,297.9 million and accounted for nearly 86.18% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. By region, Europe accounted for 62.58% of the total M&A deals done globally, and recorded a total deal value of $24,143.6 million, which accounted for 24.62% of the total deal size on a global scale.
