The social media giant gained 31 million daily active users in Q1 2022 and continued its growth in daily active users. But the daily active users on Facebook dropped slightly between the final two quarters of 2021, from 1.93 billion in Q3 2021 to 1.929 billion in Q4 2021. The first-ever quarterly decline of daily users globally for Facebook (Meta) had sent the stocks plunging by about 20%, which wiped off nearly $200 billion in market value.
Similar to strong growth in monthly active users, Facebook’s daily active user count has grown over the years and the social media platform surpassed the 1 billion user mark in September 2015. The social media giant is on the trajectory to scale the 2 billion daily active users mark, with 1.96 billion daily active users in March 2022.
The other indicator critical to gauging user engagement or stickiness to a particular application or platform is the ratio of daily active users to monthly active users (DAU/MAU). The DAU/MAU ratio indicates the user engagement, the higher the ratio, the stronger the user engagement. Facebook has had a DAU/MAU ratio of more than 50% since 2009. In the first quarter of 2022, the user engagement or DAU/MAU ratio was 67%, indicating a strong user engagement.
Daily Active User (DAUs) is defined by Facebook as a registered and logged-in Facebook user who visited Facebook through their website or a mobile device or used their Messenger application (and is also a registered Facebook user), on a given day. DAUs measure user engagement on Facebook.
