On the other hand, the month of December 2021 was the most prolific in terms of deal volume, recording a total of 34 deals, resulting in an average deal value of $170.8 million during that month.
Of the 284 deals, the deal secured between Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd and Kansas City Southern, was the largest M&A deal in the Global Transportation, Infrastructure and Logistics sector, which was valued at $31,000.0 million and was completed on September 15, 2021. The second-largest deal was between Sundown Acquisition Corp. and Spirit Airlines Inc, while the third-largest deal was between MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co SA and Bollore Africa Logistics. The Sundown Acquisition Corp.-Spirit Airlines Inc deal and the MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co SA-Bollore Africa Logistics deal were valued at $7,121.5 million and $6,404.1 million, respectively. The fourth-largest deal was between Adani Group-Ambuja Cements Ltd valued at $6,228.6 million, whereas the deal between A.P. Moller - Maersk AS-LF Logistics Holdings Ltd valued at $3,600.0 million was the fifth-largest deal.
Cumulatively, the top five deals amounted to $54,354.2 million and accounted for nearly 43.87% of the total deals (by value) announced during the last twelve months. By region, North America accounted for 55.40% of the total M&A deals done globally, and recorded a total deal value of $66,666.6 million, which accounted for 21.90% of the total deal size on a global scale.
