Diagnosed incident cases of endometrial cancer in the 8MM projected to increase by 10.6% by 2030, says GlobalData

Diagnosed incident cases of endometrial cancer are expected to increase from 120,883 cases in 2020 to 133,690 in 2030 in the eight major markets (8MM*), at an annual growth rate (AGR) of 1.06%, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Endometrial Cancer: Epidemiology Forecast to 2030’, notes that the major drivers for the upward trend of the diagnosed incident cases of endometrial cancer in the majority of the 8MM over the next decade are demographic changes in these markets. The US was the only market expected to see a slight change in incidence rates in a subset of age groups during the forecast period.

Of the 8MM, Spain is expected to have the highest AGR of 2% during the forecast period, followed by Canada (1.48%) and France (1.35%).

In 2020, the US accounted for the highest number of diagnosed incident cases of endometrial cancer with more than 58,000 cases, making up 48% of the diagnosed incident cases of endometrial cancer in the 8MM. The 5EU accounted for around 43,000 diagnosed incident cases in 2020, or 35% of cases in the 8MM, while Japan accounted for roughly 16,000 cases in 2020, or 13% of cases in the 8MM.

Kasey Fu, Director of Epidemiology at GlobalData, comments: “Endometrial cancer risk rises with increased exposure to estrogen, such as higher number of years of menstruation or never being pregnant. However, many people may not be aware that obesity and diabetes are also risk factors for endometrial cancer. Obesity and diabetes both can alter hormone levels in the body and increase estrogen exposure. Changes in global obesity and diabetes prevalence may also impact endometrial cancer incidence.

“Endometrial cancer is one of the top cancers affecting women. It can cause pain, bleeding, and may metastasize to affect the bladder and other internal organs. It is important to understand the epidemiology and risks that increase cancer incidence for early detection, which will improve treatment outcomes.”
