The Australian Human Rights Commission will today unveil its proposed model for a national Human Rights Act, which will ensure legal protections for all Australians' basic rights and provide avenues for redress when those rights are violated. The position paper is the second major report released by the Commission as part of its project, Free + Equal: An Australian Conversation on Human Rights. The Commission consulted with civil society organisations, legal and constitutional experts, and human rights advocates while developing the proposed model. The paper will be followed by a final Report, which will be tabled in Parliament later this year.
