Ahead of Harnessing Fintech Innovation in Retail Banking 2017 we spoke to Banking Analyst Sean Harrison about what he’s looking forward to at the event and how fintech will shape the future of the industry.
What is happening within banking at the moment that excites you?
I’m particularly interested in how different fintech companies are finding solutions to the ever-increasing compliance costs placed upon banks. While the front-end consumer-facing innovations are more eye-catching and interesting, I think innovative solutions at the back end of bank operations will be the key to future performance. As new players emerge in the financial sector margins will inevitably be compressed, making bank efficiency a key priority in the years to come.
Which presentation are you most looking forward to?
For me I would really like to hear what Kristoff and Ivan from Aqubix have to say. Hearing their firsthand experience of managing compliance regulation with innovation will be interesting, and I am looking forward to watching their demo of the KYC Portal and learning about its impact on the market.
How do you think innovation will shape the banking industry in the next five years?
I think AI will be deployed much more than it is now, in a broad range of bank operations. Once this happens, banks will be able to do a lot more for their customers and their own operations. Banks that have wholeheartedly embraced innovation will be, in many ways, unrecognizable to banks that haven’t.
Focused on equipping banks with the tools necessary to create a sustainable innovation strategy, Harnessing Fintech Innovation in Retail Banking 2017 will be packed with interactive and thought-provoking sessions. The two-day event will cover topics such as nurturing a culture of innovation, best practices for integrating with fintech, and the opportunity PSD2 offers to both banks and fintechs. Delegates will also have the opportunity to network with representatives from the top European banks and regulators. You can register for the event here.
