Kirkland & Ellis top M&A legal adviser in construction sector for Q1 2021, finds GlobalData

Kirkland & Ellis emerged as the top legal adviser for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) by both value and volume in the construction sector for Q1 2021, having advised on 15 deals worth US$13.7bn. A total of 935 M&A deals were announced during Q1 2021, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

According to GlobalData’s report, ‘Global and Construction M&A Report Legal Adviser League Tables Q1 2021’, deal value increased by 3.2% from US$93bn in Q1 2020 to US$96bn in Q1 2021.

Ravi Tokala, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Kirkland & Ellis, being the only firm to advise on more than ten deals and surpass the US$13bn mark, emerged as the clear winner. The firm managed to advise on five billion-dollar deals (deals worth greater than or equal to US$1bn), among 13 such deals recorded in the construction sector during Q1 2021.”

Goodwin Procter occupied the second position by value with three deals worth US$10.1bn, followed by Latham & Watkins with six deals worth US$8.1bn and Goodmans with one deal worth US$5.9bn.

Vinge occupied the second position by volume with seven deals worth US$1.8bn, followed by CMS with seven deals worth US$1.3bn and Clifford Chance with seven deals worth US$404m.
