Attero will help MG Motor India to build complete EV ecosystem, says GlobalData

Following the news that MG Motor India has collaborated with India-based electronic asset management company and clean-tech provider Attero to recycle electric vehicle (EV) batteries;

Bakar Sadik Agwan, Senior Automotive Consulting Analyst at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, offers his view:

“While OEMs, government and tech companies are working collectively on boosting the EV adoption, focus on the end-of-life management of electric vehicle batteries is equally important. The partnership will help MG Motor to create a complete EV ecosystem for its customers in India. The company presently offers charging facility to customers through its network of fast charging stations. The move will improve MG’s competitiveness in the Indian EV market to compete with players such as Tata Motors, which also aims to build a complete EV ecosystem including electric cars, batteries, charging stations and battery recycling plant.

“India, at the moment, is underprepared to manage the EV waste that is expected in near future due to the absence of clear regulations. With the growing EV sales, both OEMs & battery manufacturers need to be proactive towards battery end-of-life management. MG-Attero’s partnership will not only boost customer confidence in EVs and help minimize carbon footprint but will also give them access to untapped opportunities in battery repurposing to other applications and recycling of precious materials. In the near-term, other OEMs are also anticipated to follow footsteps of Tata and MG to either develop their battery recycling plant or partner with e-waste management companies, leading India towards sustainable EV growth.”
