Subaru sets smart course for electrification, says GlobalData

Following news of Subaru’s long-term targets for electrification of its products;

David Leggett, Automotive Editor at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, offers his view:

“Subaru has set long-term targets for electrification its product range including to make at least 40% of its global sales either electric vehicles (EVs) or hybrids by 2030 rising to all of its global sales by 2035.

“Crucially, the company has entered into a collaboration with Toyota that will help share the necessary development and engineering costs for both companies’ future EVs – a very smart move.

“Last year, Toyota and Subaru announced that they are to jointly develop a platform for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and to jointly develop a BEV sport utility vehicle (SUV) model, both of which will employ Subaru’s all-wheel drive (AWD) technologies and Toyota’s vehicle electrification technologies.

“It’s a very good combination of the two companies’ respective strengths to achieve their aims in electrification.”
