UK-based start-ups raised $10 billion in VC funding in the first two months of 2022, finds GlobalData

The UK remains a key global market and the biggest European market for venture capital (VC) investments, says GlobalData. The leading data and analytics company reveals that a total of 291 VC funding deals were announced in the UK in the first two months of 2022, while the disclosed funding value of these deals stood at $10 billion.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “While most of the key global markets such as the US and China witnessed a decline in VC funding activity in February compared to the previous month, the UK showcased resilience and was a notable exception to this, as the country registered growth in both volume and value. This testifies the confidence VC investors have in the country’s start-up ecosystem.”

The number of VC deals announced in the country increased by 31% in February compared to the previous month, while funding amount also nearly doubled.

Bose adds: “Investors’ confidence in the market can also be derived from the fact that many start-ups managed to attract several big-ticket investments.”

Some of the notable VC funding deals announced during the first two months of 2022 in the UK included $1 billion raised by Checkout, $295 million raised by o9 Solutions, $200 million raised by Genesis Global Technology and around $200mn funding raised by Wayve Technologies.
