Global assisted reproductive technology consumable devices market to grow at 3% CAGR through 2030, forecasts GlobalData

The combination of rising public awareness of successfully achieving pregnancy through assisted reproductive technology (ART) and increased access to fertility clinics globally have resulted in the steady increase of ART procedures year-over-year. Against this backdrop, the ART consumable devices market is set to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3%, resulting in a global market value exceeding $440m in 2030, forecasts GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

According to GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Assisted Reproductive Technology Devices (General Surgery) – Global Market Analysis and Forecast Model’, the market for ART consumable devices, consisting of single-use devices in in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedures, has historically experienced several M&A activities.

These were mostly led by CooperSurgical, which has acquired several companies or divisions of companies, such as Research Instruments Ltd, The Pipette Company, and notably the Wallace product lines of Smiths Medical International, all in 2016. Two years later, CooperSurgical acquired The LifeGlobal Group.

The latest acquisition target of CooperSurgical is the reproductive health division of Cook Medical. As CooperSurgical and Cook Medical have historically led the global ART devices market, the acquisition is said to cement CooperSurgical as the sole leading company of the market.

Brian Hicks, Senior Medical Devices Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “CooperSurgical continues to grow its fertility division in part from continued acquisition of smaller IVF companies, however this recent one from Cook Medical is particularly remarkable given the transaction value of approximately $875m and the resulting enhancement of its market share dominance for the years to come.

“This increased awareness and access of ART in turn has driven the market growth for consumable ART devices like oocyte aspiration needles, IVF media, and embryo transfer catheters. GlobalData forecasts the market for ART devices to steadily grow well into 2030, as the demand for ART procedures will continue to rise.”
