Hearing implants market in Japan to grow at 4% CAGR through 2030, forecasts GlobalData

Japan, which was the second largest market for hearing implants in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region after Australia in 2021, is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of about 4% between 2021 and 2030, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Hearing Implants (ENT Devices) – Global Market Analysis and Forecast Model (COVID-19 Market Impact)’, reveals that Cochlear Ltd., MED-EL and Oticon Medical were the leading players in Japan, together accounting for more than 75% of the overall hearing implants market in 2021.

Vinita Sippy, Medical Devices Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Japan, despite its declining population, has increasing number of patients suffering from hearing loss and a high proportion of these patients require treatment via surgery as compared to other countries in the APAC region.”

High proportion of aging population with increasing prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss in older generation as well as children aged below 18 years of age, and inclusion of hearing implants under the Japanese universal health coverage are the factors driving the growth of hearing implants market in Japan.

Sippy concludes: “In 2021, the cochlear implants segment contributed to more than 50% of the overall hearing implants market in Japan. This is because majority of hearing loss cases are associated with issues in inner ear which are treated using cochlear implants.”
