Dune not the best fit for LK Bennett

Following today’s news (Wednesday 27 March) that Dune has tabled a bid for LK Bennett, Kate Ormrod, Lead Retail Analyst at GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, offers her view:

“While both retailers tap into the premium occasionwear market, footwear specialist Dune and LK Bennett do not seem like an obvious fit, given the latter’s clothing offer. With significant work to do to overhaul clothing designs and prices, Dune does not have the necessary experience in fashion to get LK Bennett’s clothing range back on track. However the potential acquisition makes sense if Dune was to solely focus on revitalising LK Bennett’s footwear and accessories proposition.

“Karen Millen, which acquired Coast last year, and TFG London, owner of a number of premium clothing brands including Hobbs, Whistles and Phase Eight, are more relevant suitors for LK Bennett given their credentials in the clothing sector.”
