Platinum sponsorship termination could cost Essex County Cricket Club $0.64m a year, says GlobalData

Following the news that Essex County Cricket Club sponsor Seetec has terminated its partnership with the club due to accusations of racism;

Patrick Kinch, Sport Analyst at GlobalData, a leading analytics and data company, offers his view:

“Considering Jahid Ahmed is the third player to make allegations, it is not surprising that Seetec has opted to distance itself from the club. It risks leaving a big hole in the club’s sponsorship revenue. According to GlobalData’s Sport Intelligence Centre, Essex CCC’s platinum partnerships are worth $0.64m a year.

“Further, Seetec’s early contract termination could have a domino effect – similar to that seen at Yorkshire County Cricket Club, where several main sponsors such as kit supplier Nike and venue title sponsor Emerald cancelled their partnerships.

“Should it prove to be a catalyst for further annulments, the club will face considerable revenue losses, given the club is seldom a host for international fixtures or a home ground for a side in The Hundred.”
