Multiplay service revenue in APAC to grow at 3.2% CAGR over 2021-2026, forecasts GlobalData

Multiplay service revenue in Asia-Pacific is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.2% from US$235.4bn in 2021 to US$275.3bn by 2025, driven by continued rise in the number of multiplay households in the region, and growth in the average monthly multiplay household spending, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s Asia-Pacific Multiplay Services Forecast reveals that the number of multiplay service households in the region will increase at a CAGR of 2% over the forecast period, with China leading the way in terms of household multiplay subscriptions, and faster growth anticipated from relatively under penetrated markets like India.

Acceleration in the adoption of quadruple-play services, which attracts higher average household spending will also drive growth in the overall multiplay service revenues over the forecast period.

Pradeepthi Kantipudi, Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, says: “While double play service plans will account for majority of the multiplay households in Asia-Pacific through the forecast period, its share in the total will drop from 72.3% in 2021 to 62% in 2026. Triple play and quadplay service plans will see their share of total multiplay households grow from 20.4% and 7.3% in 2021 to 27.4% and 10.6%, respectively in 2026.”

Well established fixed network infrastructure and relatively high fixed broadband household penetration in countries like China (101%), South Korea (86%), and Singapore (79%) allow telcos in these countries to promote multiplay service bundles built around high-speed Internet services.

Kantipudi concludes: “As operators package additional benefits such as unlimited Internet, access to video-on-demand platforms and free 4K set top box to enhance their bundled service offerings, the average monthly household spend on multi-play service bundles will also increase, thereby driving overall revenue growth.”
