Xiaomi Mi Band 7 fitness tracker small update from Mi Band 6 but low price, health and fitness features will still drive sales, says GlobalData

Xiaomi has recently launched Mi Band 7 fitness tracker in China. Even though the fitness tracker lacks GPS functionality, low price and the incremental updates to health and fitness features will make it a hit among budget conscious consumers, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

Ardit Ballhysa, Technology Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “The lack of GPS functionality in the Mi Band 7 is a sight for sore eyes to the many users eagerly anticipating the freedom of exercising with a Mi Band without trudging along their smartphones.

“However, the Mi Band 7 will retail for about $36 when it launches globally, and for that irresistibly low price the Mi Band 7 is sure to be a big hit among budget conscious and casual exercise goers who are willing to forego a certain feature. Even with that in mind, the Mi Band 7 still offers some features that are only found in fitness trackers above the $100 range, such as SpO2 tracking.”

The Mi Band 7 builds on last year’s Mi Band in small, but noticeable ways. The device maintains the same pill-shaped design as the Mi Band 6 but features a 25% increase in display size, from the 1.56-inch AMOLED display on last year’s version to a 1.62-inch AMOLED display on the Mi Band 7.

Health tracking has also improved compared to the previous model, with the biggest difference being the all-day blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) tracking functionality. Users can opt in to receive vibration alerts when oxygen saturation levels are low. The new device also significantly boosts the different types of sports workouts available to users from 30 sports modes to 120.

Ballhysa concludes: “The Mi Band 7 offers great health and fitness features for its low price point, with the biggest notable health feature being the all-day SpO2 tracking, a feature more commonly found in more expensive fitness trackers. The increase of available sports modes from 30 to 120 is also a very significant move for Xiaomi as by doing so the company is extending its appeal to consumers, who previously refrained from purchasing a Mi Band due to not having their desired sport mode available. Both points, including the affordability of the device, make the Mi Band 7 a well-rounded fitness tracker suitable for large audiences.”
