Mobile data revenue in Vietnam to grow at 5.9% CAGR over 2019-2024, says GlobalData

Mobile data services revenue in Vietnam is poised to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.9% between 2019 and 2024, driven by steady rise in mobile Internet subscriptions, growing consumption of mobile data services and the subsequent increase in average revenue per user (ARPU) from data, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s Vietnam Telecom Operators Country Intelligence Report predicts that mobile voice and messaging revenue will continue to decline over the forecast period as consumers rely more on Internet-based communication services. As a result, the total mobile services revenue in Vietnam is expected to marginally decline at a CAGR of 0.2% between 2019 and 2024.

Deepa Dhingra, Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, says: “Though 3G is currently the leading technology delivering mobile data services in 2019 in Vietnam, 4G subscriptions will surpass the overall 3G subscriptions in 2021 as mobile network operators continue to expand coverage of their 4G networks. As a result, 4G subscriptions will account for 44.9% share of the total mobile subscriptions in 2024 in Vietnam.

“Vietnamese military-owned operator Viettel will remain the mobile services market leader during 2019-2024, supported by its ongoing 4G network coverage expansions. The operator announced the launch of 5G trial network in Ho Chi Minh City in September 2019.”
