Mobile data to sustain growth in overall mobile services revenue in Myanmar over 2020-2025, forecasts GlobalData
The mobile services revenues in Myanmar are set to grow at a sluggish compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 0.5% from US$2.1bn in 2020 to US$2.2bn in 2025, supported by growth in mobile data segment, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
GlobalData’s Myanmar Telecom Operators Country Intelligence Report highlights that mobile data revenues will grow at a 6.0% CAGR over 2020-2025, driven by growing mobile Internet subscriptions and increasing data average revenue per user (ARPU). On the other hand, mobile voice and messaging revenues will decline at CAGRs of 4.4% and 12.3%, respectively, during the same period.
Deepa Dhingra, Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, says: “We expect the impact of COVID-10 pandemic on the mobile market to be mild. 4G will become the leading mobile technology in 2021. 4G subscriptions will grow at the fastest CAGR of 22.0% over 2020-2025 as operators such as Telenor and Ooredoo expand their LTE networks and the availability of affordable 4G handsets increase. While the country’s telecom regulator plans to auction 5G spectrum in 2020, commercial 5G launch is unlikely to take place before 2023 in Myanmar.
“MPT will remain the mobile market leader during 2020-2025, closely followed by Telenor. GlobalData expects MPT to remain the market leader through 2025, on the back of its focus on investment in telecom infrastructure upgrade required to support future launch of 5G services.”
