China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) is rumored to acquire Barra Energia do Brasil Petróleo e Gás Ltda. (Barra Energia), Bloomberg has reported, citing unidentified sources. The transaction is expected to be valued at approximately US$2 billion (Cristiane et al., 2013). The negotiations are currently underway and the acquisition could be announced in May 2013. The transaction will enable CNPC to acquire to Barra Energia’s oil and gas assets in Brazil.
