All the vital news, analysis, and commentary curated by our industry experts.
Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is an anaerobic, Gram-positive, spore-forming, rod-shaped bacillus. C. difficile infections (CDI) are primarily transmitted through the fecal-oral route. The typical clinical symptoms of CDI range from watery diarrhea, anorexia, and nausea, to hypoalbuminemia and abdominal tenderness in severe cases. The primary risk factors for CDI are prior treatment with antibiotics and recent hospitalization.
In the seven major markets (7MM: US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, and Japan), diagnosed incident cases of CDI are expected to grow from 720,463 to 869,088 cases between 2016 and 2026, at an Annual Growth Rate (AGR) of 2.06%. The US has the largest number of cases throughout the forecast period, while the UK has the smallest. The US and Spain are predicted to show the greatest increase in cases during the forecast period, as GlobalData epidemiologists applied historical trends to incidence in these countries. In other markets, changes in incident cases can be attributed to shifts in population size and structure.
GlobalData epidemiologists forecast the diagnosed incident cases of CDI in the 7MM from 2016 to 2026 using country-specific surveillance data and peer-reviewed literature with large sample sizes. It is supported by a thorough analysis of historical data and current literature. The methodology used created a forecast that matches current national estimates in the literature and allows for comparison across the 7MM. This forecast provides detailed segmentations on age, sex, recurrence, and severity.
Scope
The Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI) EpiCast Report and EpiCast Model provide an overview of the risk factors and global trends of CDI in the 7MM (US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, and Japan). It includes a 10-year epidemiology forecast of CDI diagnosed incident cases segmented by sex and by age (for ages 18 years and older). This report also provides recurrences of CDI cases and the diagnosed incident cases segmented by severity.
The CDI epidemiology report and model were written and developed by Masters- and PhD-level epidemiologists.
The EpiCast Report is in-depth, high quality, transparent and market-driven, providing expert analysis of disease trends in the 7MM.
The EpiCast Model is easy to navigate, interactive with dashboards, and epidemiology-based with transparent and consistent methodologies. Moreover, the model supports data presented in the report and showcases disease trends over a 10-year forecast period using reputable sources.
