Global coal reserves totaled 891.5 billion tonnes (Bnt) at the end of 2015. Sub-bituminous and lignite coal accounted for 54.8%, or 488.3bnt, while anthracite and bituminous coal collectively accounted for 45.2%, or 403.2Bnt. The US ranked first in terms of coal reserves, with a global share of 26.6% or 237.3Bnt in 2015, followed by Russia with 157.0Bnt, China with 114.5Bnt, Australia with 76.4Bnt, India with 60.6Bnt and Germany with 40.5Bnt.
