In 2022, seven licensing rounds are closing by Q1 2022. They will be hosted by a total of six countries in three regions. Another eight, that are open, are expected to close by the end of 2022. Asia is hosting the highest number of licensing rounds globally that are expected to close in 2022, followed by Africa and Oceania. One round each is expected to close in South America, the Caribbean, the Former Soviet Union, and the Middle East.

Several oil and gas bid rounds will be held in Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Europe, Former Soviet Union, Middle East, North America, Oceania, and South America in 2022.

Oil and gas bid rounds in Africa

In Africa, bidding is about to close in Egypt and open in Angola, Mozambique, and Algeria. There are upcoming bidding rounds in Angola, Algeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Nigeria-Sao Tome and Principe Joint Development Zone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, and Tanzania. The Egyptian government launched its Limited Bid Round in 2021. Egypt offers most of its upstream acreage in the form of concession agreements with a PSA framework. Parties of the contract are The Government of Arab Republic of Egypt, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), and Contractor.

Oil and gas bid rounds in Asia

In Asia, bidding is about to close in India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Timor-Leste. Open bidding rounds are being hosted in India and Malaysia, and there are upcoming bid rounds in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Thailand. In India, companies are invited to bid for exploration, development, and monetization of CBM blocks likely to contain both conventional and/or unconventional hydrocarbon resources, distributed in the sedimentary basins of India.

Hydrocarbon exploration and production in Indonesia is conducted under PSAs. Petroleum agreements in Pakistan are issued under concession agreements for onshore areas. The governing regulatory framework has been outlined through successive Petroleum Exploration and Production Policy releases which structure the PCA terms and have included the PSA terms since their introduction in 1997. Upstream oil and gas operations in Timor-Leste are governed by PSAs. Royalties are payable and the remaining production is available for full cost recovery. After deduction of royalties and cost recovery, the production is shared between the licensee and the state.

In the Caribbean, bidding is open in Trinidad and Tobago while upcoming bid rounds will be hosted in Barbados and Dominican Republic.

The upcoming bid rounds in Europe are in Montenegro, Poland, Romania, and the United Kingdom.

Oil and gas bid rounds in Former Soviet Union

Russia has an open bid round in the Former Soviet Union.

Lebanon has an open bid round and Israel and the UAE have upcoming bid rounds.
