The Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), Indonesian state utility firm is undertaking the construction of unit V and VI as the expansion of Tanjung Jati B power plant in Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia. The project involves the construction of a ultra-supercritical power plant having a power generation capacity of 2000MW (2×1000) on 140ha of land. It includes the construction of power house, substation and raw water storage tanks; the installation of turbine, generators, boiler and coolers; and the laying water and electricity transmission lines. In February 2015, five companies submitted proposals to develop the project. On March 3, 2015, PT. Central Java Power Public Consultation held Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) public consultation.On March 4, 2015, Fishermen Association of Indonesia and the Forum of Fishermen Jepara North, submitted an objection to the project.On December 21, 2015, Sumitomo Corporation, jointly with the Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. and PT United Tractors Tbk, an affiliate of Astra Group have signed development agreement and power purchase agreement. The project will be developed under (Build, Operate and Transfer) BOT scheme.In January 2016, Sumitomo Corporation, KEPCO and Astra Group affiliate PT United Tractors have appointed Credit Agricole and Societe Generale to the syndicate of banks financing for the project. The project will be financed on 80:20 debt-to-equity ratio.The contractors had previously mandated Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Mizuho, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and Sumitomo Trust for the financing.PT. Mitra Adi Pranata has been appointed as environmental consultant for the project.Mizuho and Latham & Watkins were appointed as financial advisors; Black & Veatch Holding Company and Huadian Heavy Industrie Co. Ltd as coal handling systems supply contractor.80% of the project funding, will be secured by bank debt. Two kinds of financial institutions which would fund the project, namely the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and a syndicate of seven banks. Meanwhile, 20% will be funded from equity.On June 3, 2016, the project is expected to secure US$2000 million funding from JBIC, Sumitomo Mitsui, Mizuho and Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi. On May 11, 2016, land acquisition process was completed.In October 2016, Pöyry secured technical consulting services contract. The scope of work includes assistance in project management, design review, site services, quality assurance and quality control, commissioning services and assistance in environmental monitoring for the project. In January 2017, French bank Societe Generale confirmed that it will not provide finance for the project.Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has been awarded a contract to supply two ultra-supercritical-pressure boilers and four electrostatic precipitators.On March 31, 2017, construction works commenced and scheduled to be completed in 2021.
