Peru was the world’s seventh-largest producer of gold, producing an estimated 5.4 million ounces in 2018, while production of silver was 146.8 million ounces. By 2023, gold mine production is expected to fall to 4.7 million ounces, due to the depletion of the country’s major mines, including the Orcopampa, La Zanja and Tambomayo mines. However, silver mine production is expected to increase to 153.6 million ounces by 2023.
