In Q4 2017, the US had the highest refining capacity under maintenance (both planned and unplanned) globally among countries with more than 2.5 mmbd under maintenance. The country also had the highest unplanned maintenance globally, followed by Russia and Venezuela. Russia leads among countries in terms of planned maintenance, followed by the US and China. One of the major contributors for unplanned maintenance globally was power outage. Other factors include fire and explosion, technical problems, and leakages.
