March 2017 saw a number of policy changes in the global renewable power market.
In North America, in the US, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) attained its state legislated target of 25% from renewables. Madison, Wisconsin and Abita Springs, Louisiana pledged for 100% from clean energy and the governor of Rhode Island announced a 1 Gigawatt (GW) clean energy target by 2020. Also, the US Department of the Interior completed the auctioning of 122,405 acres offshore Kitty Hawk. The Oklahoma House passed a tax credit bill for the wind sector.
In Asia-Pacific, India’s state of Maharashtra announced it was resuming wind project power purchase agreements (PPAs) after three years’ break and New Delhi’s solar power policy will be effective from April 2017.
In Europe, in the UK, Renewables Obligation (RO) scheme were discontinued for new applications. France announced 14 winners for its tender for biomass power plants.
