The US is expected to lead North America’s planned and announced gas processing capacity additions projects over the next 5 years , contributing approximately 65% of the regions gas processing additions by 2025, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

The company’s latest report, ‘Gas Processing Industry Outlook in Europe, North America, and Former Soviet Union (FSU) to 2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook with Details of All Operating and Planned Processing Plants’, reveals that the US is set to have a planned gas processing capacity of 3,345 million cubic feet per day ( mmcfd), and an announced gas processing capacity of 4,795 mmcfd by 2025.

Teja Pappoppula, Oil and Gas Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Bighorn and Smithburg II-VI are the two largest upcoming gas processing plants in the country with capacity of 1,000 mmcfd each. Both the gas processing plants are expected to start operations in 2024 with DCP Midstream LP for Bighorn and Sherwood Midstream LLC for Smithburg II-VI being the operators.”

Canada ranks second, in terms of gas processing capacity additions, with a planned and announced gas processing capacity of 4,435 mmcfd by 2025. Chetwynd will be the highest gas processing plant during the period 2021 to 2025, with a proposed gas processing capacity of 1,500 mmcfd. The announced gas processing plant is expected to start operations in 2024.

Teja concludes: “Mexico accounts for minuscule capacity additions in the region with 13 mmcfd by 2025. The planned Hokchi Paraiso is the only upcoming gas processing plant in the country and is slated to begin operations in 2023.”
