Volumes in Uzbekistan’s beverages market increased by 1.3% during Q4 2020, says GlobalData

Uzbekistan’s beverages industry volumes grew by 1.3% in Q4 2020 on a Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) basis owing mainly to the volume gain by the soft drinks sector, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s report, ‘Uzbekistan Beverages Consumption Trends and Forecasts Tracker, Q4 2020 (Dairy and Soy Drinks, Alcoholic Drinks, Soft Drinks and Hot Drinks)’ reveals that soft drinks, the second largest sector in beverages, posted a strong gain of 10.5%, offsetting volume losses in other sectors in Q4 2020.

Energy drinks reported a surge of 23%, while carbonates and still drinks categories also registered double-digit growth rates in Q4 2020. Iced/RTD tea, packaged water, and juice categories, posted healthy single digit growth rates in the same quarter, thus contributing to the rise in soft drink volumes.

Raviteja Neralla, Consumer Analyst at GlobalData, says: “Dairy drink volumes declined by 2.2%, with a strong decline in drinking yogurt, while other categories saw moderate declines. Fermented milk was the only category to see its volume rise in Q4 2020, albeit at a small pace.”

Alcoholic beverages saw their volumes decline, mainly driven down by falling beer volumes. Modest gains made by FABs (flavored alcoholic beverages) and fortified wine categories could not offset losses in the overall sector.

Mr. Raviteja concludes: “The much-anticipated commencement of COVID-19 mass vaccination is expected to bring some reprieve through a resurgence in economic activity, benefiting the country’s economy and sales of beverages.”
