On September 20, 2022, chip giant Nvidia Corp. introduced DRIVE Thor, a new computer platform that concentrates on autonomous and assisted driving, besides other digital features such as in-car entertainment. Nvidia, a major player in the artificial intelligence (AI) and gaming chip markets, has been aggressively expanding its automotive business, a crucial area of expansion for the company. The global autonomous vehicles market increased significantly in 2022 in comparison to that in 2021, according to GlobalData.
Some automakers began to create their own processors to exercise more control and reduce expenses. Cruise, the autonomous driving division of General Motors, announced this week that it developed its own chips and it will use them by 2025. Currently, it uses Nvidia chips.
