GSA – Harrisburg New US Courthouse – Pennsylvania
The US General Services Administration (GSA) is planning to undertake a new courthouse at North Sixth and Reily streets in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the US.The project involves the construction of a new courthouse on a 22,575.43m2 site. The project will include the construction of five District courtrooms, two Magistrate courtrooms and one Bankruptcy courtroom, office space, associated supporting spaces, such as judges’ chambers, jury deliberation facilities, jury assembly, grand jury suites and holding cells, 42 interior parking spaces and related facilities.Ennead Architects LLP, was appointed as the design architect for the proposed project.In April 2013, GSA awarded a US$373,000 contract to USA Environmental Management, Inc. of Philadelphia, PA for Site Demolition and Lot Consolidation services for the proposed project. The contract includes the demolition of nine three-story homes and a one-story commercial structure. In April 2013, RLS Construction Group was appointed as the general contractor for the project.On May 15, 2013, the demolition works commenced and completed on October 18, 2013.In March 2014, the project placed on hold due to funding related issues. GSA is waiting for Congress to allocate funds for the project in order to move forward with construction of this U.S. Courthouse.In December 2015, Congress has been approved to allocate funds for the project.In April 18, 2016, Congress announced that US$30 million will be funded for the preparation works of the project.In January 25, 2017, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded $9,194,935 to Ennead Architects of New York, NY for providing A/E services for the U.S. Courthouse planned at 6th & Reily Streets in Harrisburg. In May 2017, GSA plans to issue a tender to appoint a construction manager to undertake the construction of structures and facilities for the project. Project secured US$137.2 million funding in fiscal year 2018 budget. On July 19, 2017, GSA awarded US$6 million five-year contract to Hill International to provide construction management services for the project. Mascaro Construction Company has been appointed as a construction manager.Design works are underway and design estimated to be finalized by the fourth quarter of 2018.
