TThe Romanian profit sector’s total revenue reached RON38.2 billion ($8.4 billion) in 2023, yielding a CAGR of 2.7% from 2018 through 2023. The economic slowdown during 2020 and 2021, combined with high inflation, adversely impacted foodservice sales. However, the sector’s expansion in 2023 was due to robust economic growth, which restored consumer confidence and played a crucial role in driving demand at foodservice establishments.
Furthermore, the steps taken by the Romanian Government to promote travel and tourism positively impacted sales at hotels, restaurants, and cafés (HoReCa). The mobile operator channel registered the highest CAGR at 5.8%, followed by the QSR and workplace channels during 2018–23.
During 2023–28, the Romanian profit sector will register a strong CAGR of 8.9%. The number of transactions will register a CAGR of 3.9%, while the number of outlets will generate a CAGR of 1% during 2023–28.
