Key Highlights
In a significant move to enhance the convenience of digital payments in Finland, Vipps MobilePay and Tink (a Visa solution) announced a strategic partnership in September 2025. This collaboration aims to streamline P2P payments and improve the overall user experience for MobilePay customers. Tink’s Pay by Bank technology enables users to link their bank accounts directly to the MobilePay app. This integration allows all MobilePay customers in Finland to add and utilize their bank accounts within the app. In addition to P2P transfers, Tink’s Pay by Bank has been incorporated as one of the three primary payment methods in Vipps MobilePay’s online checkout.
In February 2026, Siirto, a prominent player in the Finnish payment landscape, announced a partnership with Paytrail; a leading online payment service provider. This collaboration aims to extend Siirto’s online payment capabilities to Paytrail’s extensive customer base; enhancing the accessibility and convenience of digital transactions in Finland. However, in a significant strategic shift, Siirto will permanently discontinue its standalone app on May 27, 2026, opting instead to integrate its services into the Nordea Mobile app. This move reflects the evolving trends in the payment industry and the increasing demand for integrated financial solutions.
In February 2026, Vipps MobilePay formalized cooperation with several European payment services. The objective is to create an independent European payment system by combining existing solutions. This initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Italian Bancomat, Spanish Bizum, Portuguese SIBS–MB WAY, Vipps MobilePay, and EPI Company, which is responsible for the pan-European mobile wallet Wero. The planned system will enable cross-border P2P and consumer-to-business (C2B) payments, slated for roll out in 2026 and 2027, respectively. Money transfers will work in the same way in the app. No new app will be required and all activity will take place within the Vipps MobilePay app. This development is expected to allow Vipps MobilePay merchants to accept payments from international travellers. Users will also be able to pay with Vipps and MobilePay in stores across Europe.
