GlobalData expects the Dominican Republic’s construction industry to expand by 5.5% in real terms in 2026, supported by a rise in foreign direct investment (FDI), coupled with investments in energy and transport infrastructure projects. According to preliminary data released by the Central Bank of Dominican Republic (BCRD) in July 2026, FDI in the country grew by 7.7% year-on-year (YoY) in the first half of 2026 increasing from DOP193 billion ($3 billion) in H1 2025 to DOP207.8 billion ($3.3 billion) in H1 2026. By sector, 27.8% of the total FDI corresponds to energy, 20.1% corresponds to the tourism sector, and 12.4% each corresponds to the real estate development, and mining sectors.
Industry growth in 2026 is also expected to be supported by increased private investment in residential, commercial, and tourism projects. Additionally, stable lending rates is expected to expand access to credit, thereby stimulating activity in the construction industry. In its July 2026 meeting, the BCRD left the monetary policy interest rate unchanged for the ninth consecutive time, at 5.25%. This follows a cumulative reduction of 275 basis points since May 2023. Additionally, in early August 2026, the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) reported that the total number of building permits granted in the country grew by 85.5% YoY in the first seven months of 2026, increasing from 605 in January-July 2025 to 1,122 in January – July 2026. In comparison, the ministry had only granted 953 permits in overall 2025.
