CCUS Market Outlook and Trends – H2 2026
Powered by ![]()
All the vital news, analysis, and commentary curated by our industry experts.
The global CCUS market is in a phase of industrial hardening, as development shifts from isolated, subsidy-led pilot projects toward standardized, integrated, and commercially viable infrastructure. Momentum for CCUS project deployment continues, albeit slowly, with only 4 projects starting operations in H1 2026. With a slate of 27 projects that are in the construction and commissioning phase but still aim to come online in 2026, market headwinds are increasing execution risks for upcoming projects.
The global CCUS market is in a phase of industrial hardening, as development shifts from isolated, subsidy-led pilot projects toward standardized, integrated, and commercially viable infrastructure.
Despite delays and cancellations in some areas, 44 projects came online in 2025, adding ~14.8mtpa of capture capacity. While this indicates sector progress, momentum has softened over H1 2026, with only 4 projects reaching completion.
While the overall project pipeline remains large, with GlobalData tracking 806 active and upcoming projects totaling ~930.6mtpa in capacity, this represents a 2.4% contraction versus the market outlook in Q1 2026. A major driver was the suspension of the 8mtpa Drax Power Plant BECCS project, due to the lack of a UK regulatory framework to support investment in its BECCS development.

Key Highlights
Despite delays and cancellations in some areas, 44 projects came online in 2025, adding ~14.8mtpa of capture capacity. While this indicates sector progress, momentum has softened over H1 2026, with only 4 projects reaching completion.
While the overall project pipeline remains large, with GlobalData tracking 806 active and upcoming projects totaling ~930.6mtpa in capacity, this represents a 2.4% contraction versus the market outlook in Q1 2026.
North America remains the leading CCUS region by total pipeline capacity, although that capacity contracted in H1 2026. Total announced capacity declined 5.5% from year-end 2025 to Q2 2026, driven primarily by early-stage attrition, with feasibility capacity down 15% and FEED down 14%.
Even so, later-stage execution has improved, indicating a bifurcated CCUS development landscape. Commissioning capacity rose sharply from 0.5mtpa to 5.7mtpa.
Natural gas processing continues to lead in terms of active CCUS capacity. However, within the upcoming project pipeline, power generation continues to remain the leading sector adopting CCUS, with surging electricity demand, much of it tied to AI and data center load growth.
